K.O. II EP-133 timing map

Welcome to me learning in public. I wanted a visual to see how the note and beat timing intervals relate to each other so I made one to try to figure it out.

This is for the 4/4 time signature.

  • 1, 4, 16 are the intervals that match BAR, BEAT, and STEP, which are the first, second and third digits in the display. You can think of them as 1, 10, 100. As in 1 BAR is made of 4 BEATS which are made of 4 STEPS each. (4x4=16)
  • 2 and 8 are "odd". They will skip forward "irregularly" in terms of the display.
  • 32 doubles the resolution of the last digit, eg the step.
  • 8T divides the bar by 12, and 16T divides it by 24, like a clock. Unlike the others, they're divisible by 3 instead of 2.

In case you like what I do, I also made this calendar app for ADHD.

Sure, I'll check it out!

What the hell is a time signature, anyway?

Based on this site,

  • first number is how many BEATs in the BAR (the first two numbers in the display)
  • second number seems to be how many STEPS in the BEAT, but as the reddit comment at the bottom of this post says, it's more accurate to say it's "which note length gets one beat".

So a 3/2 time signature on the KO would mean:

1 BAR made of 3 BEATs of a note length of 2 each, or 1, 3, 6 when divided into even STEPs. (As opposed to 1, 4, 16 above)

Which means that when you set your timing grid to 8T (which is the grid that maps to one bar of 3) and tap + to advance through steps, it will step through evenly: 1 BAR made of 3 BEATs, made of 6 STEPs.

Now. All this having been said, this Reddit user had these insightful comments:
